Here is a video of the running BW:
John Deere Model BW Tractor, starts easily and runs
and drives as it should (very well), good mechancial condition,
brakes are operational. A diamond in the rough. Only 247 unstyled
BW's were produced in the factory at Waterloo.
Built 21 August 1936. Shipped 11 September 1936 to
Experimental Shop, Shipped 31 October 1936 to Engineering Dept.,
Converted to a BW 12 May 1937, Shipped 18 May 1937 to Sacramento
as a BW
This tractor has an interesting history as archives
research done by an early collector indicates that this tractor
may have originally been built as a BW-40, which would have made
seven BW-40's produced in 1936 instead six. It spent parts of
its first year in the Experimental and Engineering Depts. of Deere
before its conversion to a regular BW and shipment to be sold
in Sacramento. It currently has none of the parts unique to a
BW-40. The previous owner said it had 40 inch tires when he bought
it, but he obtained the current 36 inch cutoff wheels from another
collector known to me, who confirmed they were from him. This
tractor needs further research to try to confirm how it was originally
built and equipped.
